Matt and his career

After college, Matt stayed in Clemson and took a job with Neal, Prince and Browning, an architecture firm in Greenville, South Carolina. A year later he moved to Boulder, Colorado and worked for Fletemeyer and Associates, a landscape architecture firm.

Finally, in 1983, I moved to California! At first I lived in Walnut Creek, but eventually I made my way to the peninsula. During that time, I worked for various architectural firms. But in 1993, after being laid off, I started my own business! Matt is the owner of Grocott Design Home and Remodel. He specializes in the design of new homes, remodels and additions. Most of his current and past projects are on the peninsula; many are in Belmont and San Carlos.

One of my favorite projects is 1500 Morse Boulevard; it's located on the corner of Morse and Rosewood. The client's were great and together we came up with a very nice design! They are happy!

His most recent project to be completed is at 812 Cordilleras in San Carlos.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and the destruction of the Gulf Coast, Matt made three trips with fellow San Carlos residents to Pass Christian, Mississippi. While there, they helped to reconstruct homes and businesses. Seeing the devastation of the area, I'll never forget it. But the resiliency those folks displayed in fighting back and rebuilding, I'll never forget that either.

As San Carlos' Mayor, Matt hosted the Mayor's Family Fun Ride to raise funds for the rebuilding effort.

Dedicated to the sport of wrestling even after college, Matt coached at various High Schools, including Fairview HS in Boulder, Co; Sunset HS in Hayward, Gunn HS in Palo Alto, and Burlingame HS here on the peninsula. Matt also volunteered at Skyline College under coach Keith Spataro, and at Stanford University under coaches Chris Horpel, Steve Buddie and Kerry McCoy. What is most satisfying from all those years of coaching, is hearing from the kids, who are now grown men; so often they attribute their success in life to lessons learned from wrestling! Other organizations which Matt has served include: American Institute of Building Design (AIBD), Golden Gate Chapter President; Barnabas Counseling Center in San Mateo, board member; San Mateo First Presbyterian Church, deacon; the San Carlos LIONS Club; San Carlos Healthy Cities tutor.
